Project:
Jacksonville Zoo – African Forest Great Apes Exhibit
YEAR:
2018
LOCATION:
Orlando, Florida
PROJECT SUMMARY:
In September of 2018, the Jacksonville Zoo opened its doors to the African Forest great apes exhibit. The centerpiece of this area is an artificial Kapok tree in which the apes (Bonobos) can climb and zoo keepers can study the animals from inside the tree. We were fortunate enough to fabricate and install the spiral stair and upper platform, as well as the leaves in the canopy. These leaves were made out of steel pipe that we shaped with heat into 5 different 3D patterns. Once the steel pipes were painted, the canvas was installed inside the leaf perimeters. We thank the Nassal company in Orlando for entrusting us with this cool project.
